Thoughts for the Day

'The purpose of playing is to hold the mirror up to nature, to show virtue her own feature, scorn her own image, and the very age and body of the time his form and pressure.'

Hamlet’s advice to the players Shakespeare

‘Asking a working writer what he thinks about critics is like asking a lamppost what it feels about dogs.’

NETWORKING EVENTS

Playwrights should be proactive in the development of their careers. They need the skills to sell themselves, eloquently discuss their work and understand the workings of the theatre business. Our events are specially targetted at theatre practitioners with an interest in new writing and an appreciation of the writers as fully participating members of the theatre making process.

20th April 2008 – Meet and Greet Networking Party

At the fabulous Conservatory venue in Battersea, this first event was a great success. In a setting both sumptuous and unpretentious, our members got a real chance to meet many of Theatre503′s team whilst enjoying a fun night out. It remained a rather informal event with a select guest list of just over 40 specially invited theatre practitioners including many young and upcoming directors. We raised money with an hilarious raffle and raised a glass to celebrate the LPC’s first anniversary!

17th May 2009 – Annual Networking Party

Our second event at the Terrace Bar of Doggett’s Coat and Badge Pub in central London which boast wonderful views of the Thames was an equal success, with equally hilarious raffle and home-made cake. An equally informal event with a guest list of just over 50 made up of writers, directors, producers and theatre company, this was a great opportunity to share ideas and discuss future projects. We were also thrilled to welcome Anthea Williams and Angela Bond from the Bush Theatre as special guests. They gave a fascination short pre-launch presentation of their upcoming website BushGreen, a site which will provide social networking tools for theatre practitioners and enable playwrights to publish their work online, followed by a short forum discussion. All present joined the LPC to give full support to the site.
